Robotics Program
St. Mary Cathedral School – Cape Girardeau
Building Minds. Solving Problems. Shaping the Future.
St. Mary Cathedral School is proud to introduce our new Robotics Program, designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in students while preparing them for a technology-driven future. Rooted in our Catholic values, this program encourages collaboration, perseverance, and ethical problem-solving.
Why Robotics at St. Mary?
Robotics blends science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) into hands-on learning experiences that help students:
-
Think logically and creatively
-
Solve real-world problems
-
Work effectively in teams
-
Develop confidence through trial and discovery
-
Build skills essential for future academic and career success
Through robotics, students learn that failure is part of growth—and that persistence leads to innovation.
Program Overview
Our Robotics Program introduces students to the fundamentals of:
-
Programming & Coding
-
Mechanical Design & Engineering
-
Electronics & Sensors
-
Problem-Solving & Logical Thinking
-
Team Collaboration & Leadership
Students design, build, and program robots to complete challenges that grow in complexity as skills develop.
Grade Levels
The Robotics Program is designed to be age-appropriate and progressive, allowing students to build upon their knowledge year after year.
-
Elementary Grades:
Introduction to robotics concepts using visual programming, simple builds, and guided challenges. -
Middle School Grades:
More advanced coding, mechanical design, and problem-solving with independent projects and team competitions.
Faith-Centered Learning
At St. Mary Cathedral School, technology education goes hand in hand with our mission to develop the whole child. The Robotics Program emphasizes:
-
Respectful teamwork and communication
-
Ethical use of technology
-
Responsibility, perseverance, and stewardship of talents
-
Applying Catholic values to modern challenges
Students learn that innovation should always serve the greater good.
Competitions & Enrichment Opportunities
As the program grows, students may have opportunities to:
-
Participate in local and regional robotics competitions
-
Collaborate with peers through team challenges
-
Showcase projects at school events
-
Engage in after-school robotics clubs and workshops
These experiences promote leadership, confidence, and school pride.
Preparing Students for Tomorrow
Robotics education helps students develop skills that are increasingly important in high-demand fields such as:
-
Engineering
-
Computer Science
-
Healthcare Technology
-
Manufacturing & Automation
-
Research & Innovation
Most importantly, it teaches students how to think, not just what to think.
